About LIDHF
Dr. Alan Farber completed the accredited advanced specialty education program in periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of dental medicine in 1987. He was president of both the Suffolk County Dental Society and the Northeastern Society of Periodontists. He is presently Founder and director of Long Island Dental Forum, and is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Periodontics at the State University of New York School of Dentistry at Stony Brook. He currently maintains practices in Medford & Hauppauge, Long Island for the past 23 years.
Valerie Carro, RDH: has a dental hygiene degree from Farmingdale University. She has been practicing hygiene for 23 years and has been a member of our team since 1989. Valerie has advance training in non-surgical Periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and also clinical training on Perioscopy.
Helga Popko, RDH: has a dental hygiene degree from Farmingdale University, a B.S. degree in Health Administration from St. Joseph’s College and a M.S. in Health Policy and Management from State University of New York at Stony Brook. Helga has been practicing hygiene for thirty years and has been a member of our team since 1998. She is an adjunct faculty member at Farmingdale State College, Department of Dental Hygiene since 2002. Helga is member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, Dental Hygienists’ Association of the State of New York, Long Island Dental Hygienists’ Association and the New York State Dental Hygiene Educators’ Association.
Long Island Dental Forum: was established by Dr Farber in 1996. LIDF is affiliated with the Seattle Study Club, a closely allied network of over two hundred and fifty study clubs across the country, to provide the highest quality of programming. The programs bring the members the most current industry developments and techniques and also include practice management seminars for improved teamwork and productivity.

Course descriptions:
Fluorides: Saint or Sinner? – The changing views on Fluoride: Dr. Howard Schneider, a Long Island Pedodontist will explore: The benefits of fluoride, possible systemic downsides to fluoride, the ADA’s most current evidence-based guidelines for use and information on the newer fluoride products. This lively discussion will also welcome your questions.
Caries Detection Devices: The most current information and demonstrations of the various caries detection devices will be presented. After each vendor shows their device, we will have a “Round Table” discussion amongst dentists and hygienists. (This will be a combined meeting of the LIDF & LIDHF).
Medical Conditions Posing as TMD: An expert in the field, Dr. Tanenbaum is a dynamic speaker who will describe the symptoms and physical findings associated with common temporomandibular disorders through case studies.
Hygiene Caseflix: Moderate to Advanced Periodontal Disease and Restorative and Implant treatment. This will be an interactive, “hands on” discussion and treatment planning program. Using power point photos the hygienists will co-diagnose and treatment plan a patient from beginning to completion.
