Perioscopy- Periodontal Endoscope (Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy)

 
The perioscope is a new technology developed for the treatment of periodontal disease. The perioscope is an endoscope that has been specifically designed to explore and visualize the pocket (space) under the gum of teeth involved with periodontitis. An image on a computer monitor shows the diseased tooth’s root surface. The perioscope enables the doctors and hygienists at the farber center to see the contents of your periodontal pocket and to analyze the root surface of the tooth for disease-causing bacterial accumulations (plaque and calculus).

The perioscope guides the clinicians here during the process of cleaning your root surfaces free of plaque and calculus – the treatment for periodontitis. It also allows the clinicians here to identify other problems (cracks, perforations and other disease-causing flaws of the tooth root’s surface) that are located under the gum, and which previously required surgery to detect.

  • Quarterly visit to Dr. Farber

    I love the coffee at the end of my visit. This is a reward for showing up. It also comes in handy on a chilly day. The variety of lotions in the ladies room put me in mind of a spa, even the "no touch" soap and garbage can is appealing. The flow of technology is always impressive, when they function correctly. It does make one wonder if we will one day be treated by robotic arms. But for the now, the quality of care is superb and many of us travel out of our way to see Carol. What we all could live without is the reminder in the waiting room of what we may be in for in the future. Dental instructional videos don't take your mind off anything.They stress you out! Then when you get in the chair, they take your blood pressure and it never reads right. Last time it was much higher; this time it was so low, it freaked me out. Also watching paintings float along the screen is not really calming when someone has pointy tools in your mouth. But this visit, I got a gold star for superb home care and a great cup of coffee. Thanks, guys.

    After weeks of putting off the inevitable, I made an appointment for a consult for an implant. Yesterday, Dr. Farber extracted a tooth and placed an implant. For weeks, I was very self conscious about my smile and in just a couple of hours, Dr. Farber restored it. Its really amazing!! I didn't even experience any post-op pain or swelling.
